Dr. David Weiss, director of the IDR, sits down with two renowned Indian scientists, Dr. Taral Mehta and Dr. Gaurang Shah, as well as Sridhar Rajagopalan and Mohit Singh Arora, to talk about combating the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as recent breakthroughs in research on the novel virus.
Dr. Mehta shares the exciting and potentially groundbreaking news that Indian virologists have
found that the COVID-19 vaccine might prevent contraction of the virus for years to come,
unlike the flu vaccine, which must be received annually. They also disclose that the BCG
vaccine, which has been used in India to fight tuberculosis for years, slows the transmission of
COVID-19.
The Indian government, as Dr. Shah explains, has converted roughly 5,000 train cars into
working hospitals. The roundtable participants discuss the positive impacts of India’s response to
COVID-19 is having at home and around the globe.
Mohit Singh Arora, a Risk Management Professional, speaks about Robin Hood Army’s
initiative to provide meals and goods to those in need for 30 consecutive days, among other
amazing plans.
